The concept of B4C’s technology is based on a thermal conversion process, not actually a coating at all. Thus, there is no potential for bond failure, adhesive wear, fretting wear or chipping.
Another of the benefits of B4C’s technology is in sand abrasion resistance. Field testing has assured sand abrasion resistance of ASTM 6-65, with an average loss of 1.84 mm3 at 1,000 revolutions. Improved sand abrasion resistance allows for improved cost savings and reduction of frictional losses.
In addition, the process creates a substrate that is completely impervious to sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid.
